New Year's Day

An early start after a late night in order to be on our little bus for TEN hours in the company of the wonderful duo Antonio (driver) and Natalia (tour leader). We travelled along twisting roads going up one side of a mountain and down the other then up another mountain and down again etc etc. A few loo stops – that’s Holly waiting outside the ladies loo – the person in front of her has just taken a bucket of water inside to flush the toilet. Bit basic. Saw a large number of turkey vultures as well as a lot of interesting trees in blossom but on the whole a very boring day. Arrived in the evening at Chiapa de Corzo – a one horse town where the horse had died some years back. A fairly decent restaurant and hotel (which rather grandly called itself a ‘spa’ because it had a small swimming pool and lots of vegetation) and a really good night’s sleep.
