Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect*

8 March 2010
In the afternoon we took a bus ride (amazingly good value at NZ$2.80 return) out to Sumner, a small town on the beach southeast of Christchurch, and wandered along the shoreline in the sunshine. There were a few families doing the same thing and it was a very peaceful time reminiscent of a summer long since passed.* Chris was in her element paddling in the warm sea (at one point a big wave got her and she came away with soggy bottoms on her rolled-up trousers) and Gregg was in his element as the sand was littered with driftwood and shells so he set about making his sculptures attracting strange looks and some favourable comments from passers-by. At one point two ladies out for their constitutional (Sumner is “one of the more desirable suburbs” in Estate Agent parlance) stopped and greatly admired the sculpture, one of them saying “Ah, you must be an architect...”
They must have some strange buildings out here, they probably call them Sumnerhouses

  1. Love the sea. Not so (sea)sure about the free standing art work. But good on you Gregg; top marks for effort and imaginative use of sticks and shells. I've entered you (pun resisted) for the E17 Art Trail.

  2. Christine - I thought you had sorted out the old soggy bottom of trousers problem. Do you think it's your age?
